What can only web analytics track?

I know only web analytics can track visits, but is that all you can track? Can it track unique visitors, or more than just visits? Let's say I'm a proponent trying to put html only analytics on a site like myspace. What exactly could I track? Any help is greatly appreciated!

It will still be able to track unique activities by repeating visits to the same IP / user agent. The user agent (browser, OS, etc.) can be brought up and the site can pass other information (like user id, referencing url, etc.) to the image url as variables.
