I'm looking for recommendations on an open source toolkit for HTML / CSS WYSIWYG design. What have you found valuable in your work?

I used Bluefish briefly in college, which has similar features to Dreamweaver.

Wikipedia has a nice list here .

Window

  • Web Applications - Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express 2010 ( Not open source , but powerful for large applications)
  • Websites & Microsites - Intype + FileZilla ( Not open source , but faster alternatives)
  • Notepad ++ is also a fast alternative that has various plugins (eg FTP, [ Open Source ])

Mac

  • TextMate and Coda (I've heard they are cool and sleek)

Dreamweaver Linux equivalent

asked a similar question and my answer is still the same, aptana is cross platform. Also note the concept that WSYWIG is usually not what you get, you can also look at jsfiddle.net as it is a great tool for testing concepts in a functional environment.
