Internet explorer 8 opens file in browser instead of client
Our company works with the excellent Business Intelligence tool Corvu 4.2 to analyze operational and strategic data. For several years we have been successfully working with Sharepoint 2007 for collaboration and information exchange with colleagues. Most of my colleagues are working with Internet Explorer 7, but step by step, Internet Explorer 8 is being implemented in the company.
We share a lot of Corvu files thinking about Sharepoint, but since we are using Internet Explorer 8, we have a problem that is new to us. If we click on the CorVu file in Internet Explorer 8 (not necessarily in Sharepoint), a popup will show how to open the file, if we save the file, no problem. But if we open the file, the file will be shown in the browser and not in the CorVu client! See screenshot below:

(I deleted unnecessary information)
So far my colleagues have recognized this "feature" in Internet Explorer 8. But as we open and close more Corvu files, several errors (more than 10) appear, starting with:
(no more hyperlinks can be placed)
By hitting Enter, the errors will disappear, but that's not professional! I have contacted the creators of CorVu but they have no solution for their clients. Maybe a solution in Internet Explorer 8?
CorVu file extensions can be .sqy, .tab, or .qrp. But is it possible to force files to open in the standard client rather than the browser?

Check your add-ons and see if you can turn off the one that displays this content.
Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-ons
Your screenshot looks like Excel. You should be able to configure Excel to remove the browser viewer.
Microsoft discusses how to customize the Office-in-browser viewer . There are methods for older computers .
If the browser actually shows the Corvu program, then the CorVu program should have the plugin in IE when it was installed. Try uninstalling IE and reinstalling it without touching CorVu. This should clear all custom stuff Corvu has made.
