Android development device
I am looking to get a device (phone, tablet, etc.) to develop android apps. I know I can use an emulator to get me started, but I feel like it will get me in order. I'm looking for something reasonably priced and I don't need a phone contract, data plan, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?

I would recommend either the Nexus One or the ADP2 (you can get it via the Market after logging in as a developer). Another option is ebay. All google i / o members received a motorcycle droid as a gift. And several devices are on ebay, priced around 350-400. I wouldn't buy a G1 for some reason, I think it's close to the end of life. I also avoid alternative homes and ui devices (blur, touchwiz, meaning). You want to clear your phone from Google.
The advantage of the Nexus of Dev phone is that you will have a built-in bootloader that will allow you to install custom roms, and you can get root access, which, among other things, will allow you to use the awesome hierarchyviewer tool (from the SDK) on the device.

So far, the Nexus One and ADP2 are great because you can load custom Android builds on them, which doesn't really seem like what interests you the most. In fact, this will prevent you from launching the Market app. For app development, you really need any phone that allows you to download non-market apps via ADB . want to consider purchasing a phone with a keyboard to ensure your app works properly. Finally, consider which version of Android you are targeting. Newer phones use newer versions of Android.
