Music Composing Software for iPhone

I want to create some basic background music for playing iPhone. What's a good program for OS X (10.5.8)? I would like to save audio files in a compressed format compatible with AVAudioPlayer (aif, aiff, caf, mp3, aac, m4a, mp4, wav).

Perhaps something like Logic Studio Express?

Logic Studio Express is definitely a good option. It is loaded with features and is actually designed by Apple IIRC.
You can also try Reason if that's what you're looking for.
