ActiveMerchant / Spree - is there a transaction / account fee for creators?
This is probably a silly question, but if you are using ActiveMerchant (or spree), do the creators of ActiveMerchant (or spree) create a commission? Since these are open source I would not expect them. But at the same time, since it is such a big commitment to building a processing gateway, it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to be compensated for their efforts. Or is it just a case where you only pay a commission to the credit card companies for any payments you receive?
The buyer charges a commission, but Shopify is a paid service. They donated a piece of code gateway to the ActiveMerchant project. Spree is a complete open source project (new BSD license) and therefore there is no charge for using this software. However, Spree is a software project, not a service.
The usual gateway fees obviously still apply.
