You cannot update a connection if it contains a GROUP BY clause in Oracle. You can use an inline subquery like:



UPDATE employee e
   SET sal = sal * (SELECT CASE
                              WHEN COUNT(*) >= 5 THEN
                               1.5
                              WHEN COUNT(*) >= 3 THEN
                               1.3
