Reading XML tag information in VB.NET

This works, but it will still suffer from the problem below if the attributes are reordered. The only way I can work out to avoid this problem is to hard-code the attribute names in my program and process this entry by looping through the syntax tag and finding the designated tags.

NOTE. InfoPathDocument is a special class that I made, it's nothing complicated:

Original question

I am working on a project that requires reading an XML document, especially a saved form from Microsoft InfoPath.

Here's a simple example of what I'll be working with along with some background information that might be helpful:

My goal right now is to extract the version id and location of the form. Simple with regex:

The only issue with this working solution is changing the schema in the title of the InfoPath document ... like the version for the solution version and the properties of the product version (like Microsoft LOVES does things like that).

So I decided to try using VB.NET XML parsing to help me achieve the above results, sans-regex.

ChildNode

from an object _doc

that contains the information I need, however it doesn't have any child nodes:

_doc.ChildNode(1).HasChildNodes = False

      

Can anyone help me with this?

Processing instructions are part of the XML document, but their attributes are not parsed. Try this code:



// Load the original xml...

The problem is, the tags you want to parse are not actually part of the XML document. This is an XML-Prolog containing processing instructions. And therefore they will not be available as elements in the XmlDocument.



My only idea would be (besides looking at the documentation, how could these elements be accessed) to only move the mso-infoPathSolution element into its own XmlDocument after removing the <?? > and replacing them with </ ">. Then you can access the attributes regardless of their order.
