Instead of extensions, network tools can be used to simulate different types of connections - see, for example, Network Tools That Simulate Slow Network Connections or Bandwidth Throttling Software .



If, for some reason, the APIs provided by FireFox give extensions control over their network functionality, this won't work without external applications.
