Does iPhone get a fixed IP address when accessing the network through the mobile phone network?

I don't think not, but I wondered if anyone has any experience. I guess this may vary depending on the mobile network.

I am doing some testing here on O2 in the UK and updating the post.

No, it is not. The cellular network creates a dynamic IP address for each connected device.

FYI - The free "SpeedTest.net" app will show you the public ip of your iphone when running the bandwidth test. Run it, write down the ip and start it again in a different geographic location. I am sure you will find another ip.

This is based on the fact that a "carrier box" (as I call strange fields in land belonging to a version or sprint) if you connect to a specific "carrier box" it will give you the ip that this field has. let's say there are two boxes: in box 1 there is an IP address 192.25.1.100, in box two there might be an IP address 192.26.1.100.

If you are connected via 3G / EDGE network, you should probably use a fixed ip. And probably behind some proxies. If it is not a fixed ip, then there are only a few I guess.

But that should depend on where you are. My ISP does it ... at least when I checked it on some whatismyip website .. I always got the same thing when connected over the network.

I guess it depends on where you caught the net, it will probably be the same if you stay in one place.
