How do you free your code as a static library on windows?
I have a question regarding the official release of the code. Its my first time using VS2008, so bear with me.
I have a header file with api that gives them access to lib. there is now a debug version and a release version being talked about.
how can i provide them to my client? I need to give them both folders or just the lib file along with the header file for that library. Lib is ready to use directly. but I'm a little confused between debug vs release.

You must specify one .h file and at least 4 .lib versions. An important choice is C / C ++, code generation, runtime library. You cannot predict if the client will use the static or DLL version of the CRT.
You will also want to #define _CRT_NOFORCE_MANIFEST to avoid having to enter the CRT version number you are using in the client manifest.

Some companies only provide a lib release.
(You may need to provide more configurations - such as single-user or multi-threaded libraries, etc. You probably want to figure out how your users use the lib and avoid conflicts with other libraries.)

To clear your doubts in your mind, write a mini test app based on the version of your library. You can be your own client and see what it is.
You can even find another machine to write your application and then copy the header and lib files and see if you can make a release build of the test application.
