Call interception using TAPI

I have an application that currently has the ability to call phone numbers. The Windows Phone dialer now opens by default and tries to call the number.

I want it to make the call using skype instead, so I thought I needed to create a C # app that would grab the callRequest and call skype.exe / callto instead:

Has anyone done anything like this before?

Perhaps not neat. You can probably intercept the call, but the calling application will probably act like an error.
