Use the Windows Share File Naming Convention?

Simple question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. Is there a way, in Windows or through a third party utility, to achieve filename consistency on a Windows network share?

I'm sure this is easy in Sharepoint, but I want to restrict users to the file name format they save in the folder. I could create the program after saving and look for exceptions after this fact, but I want to try and get the user to name the files according to our standards when saving.

If something is not available / configurable on the server side, can this be done via VBA in Excel or Word in the file save dialog?

Thanks for your help.

Nothing, as far as I know, it can limit filenames.

Nothing if you don't write it yourself.

How do you keep track of the folder for changes, and as soon as a file with the "wrong" filename is created, do you somehow alert the user?

Ideally, you want some kind of "hook" at the filesystem level that will also allow you to crash the file if the filename is incorrect; but I don't think there is anything at the user (not kernel) level that does this.

You will need to write a program that acts as a sharing gateway. You will also need to restrict access to the resource so that users cannot bypass the program.
