Connecting phidgets accelerometer using Android OS

I am new to Android (and programming) and I would like to connect a USB Phidgets accelerometer ( product description ) using Android OS.Phidgets provides code samples on their website including JAVA and others (see the previous hyperlink). Can anyone tell me if these samples should work with Android OS? Any other suggestions for achieving this kepping Android goal and using a different accelerometer and / or programming language?
