Which code editor is free and can be loaded using ftp with a keystroke, and has a sidebar to view folders?
I like PhpEd because with CTRL-SHIFT-S it will be uploaded to the test server, so there is no need to switch to the FTP client and find the file and download it.
I also like TextMate because the display is good (Monaco font is less cramped than Lucida Console and easy to look at than Courier) ... and also with a left-hand panel for placing folders and files.
So on PC / Mac / Linux there is an editor like this that can do
1) Easy FTP
2) List of files / folders in the sidebar
3) good looking font
4) automatic indentation
5) automatic re-indentation
6) match {and} and match <div> and </div>
I've tried a few ... like Notepad ++, jEdit or Programmer Editor and don't seem to find these features yet. Do you know that the editor is closing?

Emacs can do anything that any other editor can do, you just need to learn Scheme / Lisp to write macros :-).
I have no doubt that Vim could do that too (I'm a Vim person myself, and I've written macros, but I've never felt the need to do exactly what you ask).
This is a slightly contrived question; you may also ask which editor can:
- use COBOL code.
- add sequence numbers.
- upload it to the mainframe.
- send an SMS message to the operator to start the compiler run.
Most editors are incredibly customizable these days.

I would like to offer a solution out of the box, and instead of reinventing an IDE that can do a certain thing, I use the tools that FTP and SFTP bring me.
Specifically, ExpanDrive (formerly sftpdrive) will mount remote machines on top of sftp as local drives. This way, any local application will treat the mapped drive as if it were local, and you wouldn't have to go through hoops to save data remotely.
Likewise, for FTP there are methods like the one described here .
If you have access to samba on a remote machine use this. This is the fastest and best implemented IO-wise approach, and you can mount samba mounts directly as disks in Windows. This is my preferred development method using a shared developer dashboard in the office.
Hope it helps.
PS My favorite editor is EditPadPro because it integrates with RegexBuddy and provides true full Perl style regular expression support as well as all the standard elements like code highlighting, plugins (e.g. XML / HTML formatting), etc.

The best answer to your questions is Panic Coda. just set up the site with a local folder and link the remote folder. now every change you made in this local folder will automatically reflect to the remote folder. not only when editing a file, but also when creating subfolders or creating new files or placing an image there.
