How to access html element in flash?

I have a html page with an embedded flash movie, this flash movie has a button. I want to pass the id of an element to the containing html page in a flash movie so that when a button is clicked I get the text of that element in flash (i.e. innerHTML).

So my question basically consists of two questions:

• How can I pass something from HTML / Javascript to flash?
• How do I access an element in a html page with flash? (What ActionScript is required for this?)

I found the answer to the first question (use Flash Vars), hopefully someone can help me with another.
