Stop browser throbber spinning for comet using iframe
When I use comet using an iframe push, the throbber browser will keep spinning forever while data is being pushed through the iframe.
Lightstreamer uses an iframe too, but how do they manage to stop it?
I found a similar post here , but it doesn't seem to solve my problem. Any explanation of how the light conductor works would be very good. Thanks.

I wrote a post about this at http://www.shanison.com/2010/05/10/stop-the-browser-%E2%80%9Cthrobber-of-doom%E2%80%9D-while-loading-comet -forever-iframe /
Below are the summary solutions for different browsers: 1. Firefox In firefox, before running the callback method to update the content, you need to create a temporary iframe and attach it to the body of the document, then delete it. By continuing to do this before you fire the event, the throbber browser goes away. 2. Chrome / Safari For chrome and safari, if you just do something like above, forever iframe doesn't work at all! There will be no data returned from the server. So how do you make iframe comet work in chrome and safari. Hacks are on the server side. There are two conditions you must meet to make the iframe forever in these webkit browsers. First, the server has to push some unwanted data (about 2k) to the browser before you push the real data.So just write some browser-specific javascript comments. 3. IE In IE, if you use the above iframe method, it works. I did it successfully. However, in order to stop the browser crash of doom, you must use the special htmlfile object.
