Special characters are not displayed, sifr r436
I followed the explanation on the sIFR wiki but it can't seem like accented characters would appear in my Flash movie. I opened the Input Characters panel, pasted “ÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÊËÌÍÎÏÖØÙÌÌÛÛÏÏÞððòò” in the Include These Characters box after the ampersand, clicked OK, and then re-exported .SWF.
Symbols still not showing up in my sIFR file - any suggestions? I am running r436.

As Jeremy said, the main problem I've seen with sifr and charecters is that the special charms are not part of the font you are using.
One way to test is to run your current method with another standard font like arial, if it works then it's probably down to your font.
What font?
Secondly, when you create font glyphs inside flash, you need to change the settings to include any foreign characters to ensure they are in the flash movie. most of the standard characters are not removed as it reduces the file size of the swf file.

when you view the generated source (below) you will see the characters are javascript encoded ...
content=This%2520is%2520an%2520embedding%2520test%253A%253Cbr%253E%25C3%25C4%25C5%25C6%25C7%25C8%25C9%25CA%25CB%25CC%25CD%25CE%25CF
can you include HTML in the textbox to see if they are displayed?
I suspect the issue is with Flash. If I go to your example page ( http://unstoppablerobotninja.com/demos/sifr-encode/ ), right click on the Flash movie and copy to clipboard, this is the output:
This is an implementation test:
DON'T WORK Did
it work?
Which means to me that the characters end up just in the Flash movie, but they don't show up.
Can Flash display these symbols if you are using static publishing for some other Flash movie?

I have the same problem with a dynamic text box not displaying special characters, despite the correct customization box and the required characters to be embedded in the box.
I noticed that the original HTML, which is formatted to display Bold (i.e. using tags ) creates this problem - the same text without bold text causes special characters to display correctly (although obviously not in Bold :) I've tried various things including using a link in unicode and exporting a bold version of the font (Verdana). but nothing helps, so I think it is a Flash bug.
Of course, knowing this doesn't solve the problem if you have to use the Bold font like I did - I'm still looking for solutions and will come back if I find something.
Good luck;)
The solution to the Bold problem is easy. Special characters that do not appear is another problem that we are currently encountering.
Here's the deal with bold (and italicized):
If you use bold or italic tags in HTML, Flash doesn't necessarily insert bold and italic typefaces. What you need to do is create hidden dynamic text boxes that have bold and italic versions of the inline font highlighted. These hidden text boxes can be framed past the end of the timeline so that they are not displayed at runtime.
A related issue is that you click the B (bold) button in the property bar and paste HTML text into the textbox without the <b> tag. Flash will embed the bold font in the SWF, but if you don't enter the <b> tag in your text, Flash will render it with a non-bold font (which won't appear because it was not embedded).
Unfortunately we have a situation where a dynamic textbox was created with one font, and if we change it to any other font, it won't display. Special characters such as the ® symbol are not displayed, even if they are embedded in the font. This is with Flash CS3 and AS2.
