Missing System.Core.dll and others in Visual Studio 2010 Project Targeting 3.5 Framework

I just installed and launched Visual Studio 2010 on my development machine (alongside VS 2008). The first thing I did was make a copy of the existing project and convert it to a VS 2010 project. I told the conversion wizard to target the project to framework 3.5. The project compiles and works fine in VS 2008. When I go to build it, some of my links are marked as missing (System.Core, System.Xml.Linq, System.Data.DataSetExtensions). When I go to the Add Link dialog, they are gone. But if I look at the GAC at C: \ Windows \ Assembly, I can see the entries there.

I tried converting projects to 4.0, then back to 3.5, and unloading / reloading projects as well. Nothing works. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

The only thing I was able to fix was uninstall / reinstall. Not sure, but I think it might have something to do with beta 2 that was on my system before rtm was released.

In Visual Studio 2010, I had to resort to manually adding 3.5 versions of System.Data.Services *. Version 4.0 did not work. I suspect this is due to an issue with my VS 2010 setup, but I'm not 100% sure.

For what it's worth, I am sending you my web.config file. This solved it for me. (I've added a lot of extra features, but just remove whatever you want.

Just one thought, you can target your project to the .Net Client Profile, which provides limited namespaces. you may need to check the target structure setting in your project properties.

I ran into the WCF project did not find System.ServiceModel.Web.
