What is a good way to ensure that the background of the Flash object matches the page?

Since you cannot make the flash object transparent, there must be some other ways you can match the background. I was thinking about maybe creating an ActionScript / Javascript bridge, but I'm wondering if that would be the route.

Do I have a better option?

I agree with drusnov. In your Flash object shortcuts, you can set wmode = 'transparent' which will effectively remove the solid background from your swf. However, this is due to a slight decrease in performance. ( Usage examples and performance explanation )

If your page background color is solid, you can match the "bgcolor" value inside the Flash embed tag with minimal Javascript.

(I am assuming you are dealing with the background color of a dynamic page, or the one you expect will eventually change.)
