Content management system similar to StackOverflow.com

I'm looking for a content management system that will have features similar to stackoverflow:

Users can ask and answer questions. Users can search existing streams. The system is controlled by access - so some users may be readers / writers / admins. Some or all of the QnA streams should be visible to registered users only.

So far, I've mostly used wordpress as a CMS, but it doesn't seem to be suitable for this specific task.

WordPress is approved as a CMS, but really just for posting articles within a structure and easy commenting. If you want something as beautiful as StackOverflow, you can license it commercially.

PHPBB2 is a nice open source bulletin board forum and VBulletin is a commercial option. They both use PHP, MySQL, etc.

Almost any forum software will meet the basic requirements outlined above. The reason is so successful because it was specifically designed for that user's domain. Wordpress? Yech! Its backend is spaghetti. :)

It's not free and hosted, but you can have your own stackoverflow from the people who created it! More details here: https://meta.stackexchange.com/
