Modifying the setup file with PHP

I have an app that needs branding when loading in some continents. For example, when installed in North America, the application displays a different logo and company name at startup than it does in Europe.

The installation file is provided via a PHP script. There is currently an Inno Setup executable for Windows and a DMG for Mac OS X.

I saw that when loading Google Chrome, you can specify whether to send usage statistics. A quick look at the JavaScript that controls it shows that this is simply sent back to the server with &usagestats=0

or &usagestats=1

.

How do I influence the installation based on the settings made with the PHP download page?

If you can package different versions of your application depending on the region, you can use some form of IP address for the country database, which will determine which file the user can download.

You can use an online service to find out where the user is ( http://www.ip2location.com/ ) or get the database and execute (a few free sources I can't remember right now).

In the Chrome example, you can see how they modify the installer using the Omaha aka project . Google update.

The documentation shows that they change part of the Authenticode digital signature on the download EXE, the downloaded EXE will extract the files, read the changed Authenticode signature, and then run the configuration with the required parameters.

In our company, we create several (200+) installer "modifications" with different built-in options or enabled / disabled options by default. Different installers are tagged with different tracking codes to see how well an individual campaign is promoting. In addition, the same campaign can have several installers, which are selected depending on what parameters the user has set before downloading (for example, 32-bit, 64-bit, A / B / C module included)
