UpdatePanel and UpdateProgress not working

If I use: OnSelectedIndexChanged like this:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" AutoPostBack="true"  OnSelectedIndexChanged="Test_SelectedIndexChanged" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList>

UpdatePanel and UpdateProgress are working correctly, i.e. it shows my little gif, etc.

However, once I change that to invoke the javascript code like so:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" AutoPostBack="true" onchange="selectValues()" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList>

It stops working. There is no progress. Now, before anyone asks why I do this, it is because I need to call some scripts in managed code. It is related to Silverlight.

Anyone have a solution to this problem?

if the update panel is not updated, the updateprogress control will not work. if you try to update something without triggering an update of the updated panel (i.e. using native JS) updateprogress will not work.

I would guess because the progress is hooked up to show when the UpdatePanel is updated.

Calling the second dropdown update panel when selecting from a list?

You might have to add the OnSelectedIndexChanged event to the dropdown menu which doesn't trigger anything on the refresh panel.

You can add javascript to yout's SelectValues () function to show the progress bar, i believe it is just a div with an image you can change the css using javascript to be visible.

Hope it helps!

I think your javascript is returning false. So the server side dropdown selectedindex event doesn't fire as it doesn't return the entire page.
