Providing "partial" pages in ASP.Net? (no <html>, etc.)

I am trying to use jQueryUI AJAX tabs in my ASP.Net Webforms project.

I leaned against the wall. For AJAX, you should only render a partial page (no <html>

and such items) with an external url. How would you best do this in ASP.Net? Aspx files require things like the <html>

and tag <head>

, so they won't work, so the only thing that comes to mind is to use bulky ashx files. Did I just think about this? Is there an easier way?

Edit: Apparently, <html>

tags like this are not actually required either. So what are the differences for rendering without full page titles? Will some of the controls not work? Why not?

There is no reason why your .aspx pages should have tags <html>

.

Just go ahead and create .aspx pages with the content you want on them and point your jQuery UI tabs to each url and it will connect well.

ASP.Net does not require any special HTML tags.
You can make a partial ASPX page that includes whatever you want. (Although some server controls may not work)

In fact, you can even make an ASPX page that displays plain text (not XML).
