When the user leaves the textbox control, I want to trim any spaces and immediately update the display with an ordered string.
Should this be done in a Leave, Validating or Validated event?

I would use leave if you just want to trim the string. Confirmation is useful if you want to cancel the vacation (from tab, type click, etc.) and save the text box.
The Leave event is best suited as it happens when the focus has left the text field.
