Hard Flex Problems

I seem to be having difficulty getting the trace function to output anything to the console in Eclipse using the Flex Plug-in, Flex Builder, or even FlexBeans (the Netbeans plug-in for Flex). I uninstalled and then reinstalled the Firefox and IE version of the Flash Player 10 debugger, restarting them after uninstalling them and then after reinstalling them. I removed all old Java versions and updated to the latest version.

mm.cfg is configured correctly so that trace actions appear in the flashlog.txt file

I tried to uninstall the eclipse Flex plug-in to re-install, and now that I reinstalled I cannot create new Flex projects. I would prefer not to uninstall Flex Builder for fear it will behave strangely as well.

ANY ideas would be helpful. Ideally, I need a plugin to work, but any way to get a trace to output to the console (in ANY IDE) will be better than what I have right now.

It's actually a combination of problems. A small issue was that one application was interfering with the Flex Builder plugin. The main issue is with a setting that was changed in the Flash debugger.

If you right-click the worker SWF and then click Debugger, you can (essentially) tell the virtual machine where to listen for trace activity. This was set up to a different machine on the network and not my local machine. Once it was switched, everything recovered.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Flash debugger for Firefox and IE"; are you referring to the versions of the Flash Player debugger available here?

If not, you definitely need the ones installed to be able to output trace () output to the IDE console.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a problem, but it confused me several times.

Debug Application keyboard command (as opposed to Run Application) is different from Mac and PC. I use both methods and messed them up, which causes me to run when I think I am debugging, which of course leads to the console trace being recognized.

Most likely not him, but it doesn't hurt to mention it (hopefully) :)

How do you test the debugger? Have you tried going somewhere like with a lot of ads that still have their footprints? Or are you just testing it with your own SWFs? Have you installed the debug version of the projector? How do I configure eclipse / flex to run test swf? Is it in the browser or in the offline player? Do you have any strange mxmlc settings?

I'm assuming you've followed all of these instructions? http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/193/tn_19323.html
