"mpirun" is not recognized as external external ort commands,
I need to create a small openMP project. I gave an example from www.openmp.org. I can compile it with the / openmp option in VC ++ 2005. But when I try to run the program, I come across "mpirun" which is not recognized as an internal external ort command, operating program, or batch file. "When I search the net. I found mpirun and mpiexec are not on XP desktop, they are only in server distribution How do I run / debug openMP programs on Windows?
Or do I need to go Linux?

You note that you are using OpenMP - you do not need to use mpirun or mpiexec as you would with MPICH or OpenMPI programs . OpenMP works very differently from message passing libraries: OpenMP uses multiple threads in a single process, but MPICH and OpenMPI use multiple processes.
So, if I understand your question correctly, you should just run the executable without using mpirun or mpiexec.
If, on the other hand, you are using MPICH, the mpiexec program lives in
{ProgramFiles}\MPICH2\bin
.
